The Mendoza Review of Museums, published in 2018, included a specific proposal to develop guidance… ‘that relieves museums of the expectation that they should attempt to curate digital material from archaeological projects in favour of their deposition in a Trusted Digital Repository that will guarantee the preservation and accessibility of digital material’.

This has been a hot topic for years in archaeology, as acknowledged in recent years through the CIfA’s report into the Future of Digital Archiving in Archaeology (to be published).

Rescue are keen that such disucssions are reflective of the needs of the whole sector – from voluntary archaeology, through the commercial and consultancy sector, to local authorities and national heritage agencies – in short, anyone who is responsible for creating digital archaeological data.
